Punjab education authorities have launched investigations into serious marking mistakes observed in the 2024 Matric (SSC) and Intermediate (HSSC) examinations. The move follows growing complaints and rechecking requests from students regarding incorrect totaling and evaluation of answer sheets.
In Rawalpindi, for example, 435 marking staff—including secrecy branch officials, head examiners, sub‑examiners, assistant examiners, special checkers, board representatives, and even a data entry operator—were disciplined. Actions ranged from salary deductions to suspension from board duties for up to three years, depending on the severity of errors
To prevent recurrence, BISE Rawalpindi has deposited extra safeguards:
- Biometric attendance systems
- 24/7 CCTV surveillance at all paper-marking centers
- Use of an enhanced Monitoring & Evaluation system during marking, already piloted in the 2024 Inter Second Annual Exams and extended to the 2025 Matric exams.
Meanwhile, the Punjab Boards Committee of Chairpersons (PBCC) has introduced province-wide reforms, including:
- Banning private invigilators
- Holding exams in reputable venues (e.g. schools, colleges, halls)
- Applying watermarking to question papers to curb leaks
- Enforcing stricter punitive measures for involvement in malpractice
These actions reflect Punjab’s broader commitment to uphold merit, transparency, and fairness in public examinations.
