The Punjab government is moving forward with plans to build a state-of-the-art model cattle market near Lahore, part of a broader initiative to modernize livestock trading infrastructure across the province.

Why a New Market is Needed

Lahore’s current cattle market, located along Multan Road, spans just 72 acres—insufficient for handling high traffic and disrupting local mobility. Urban growth around the site and outdated facilities have compounded operational challenges.
Now, a new market is slated for Khudpur, near the southern loop III of Lahore Ring Road, to resolve these issues. This relocation will ease congestion and support a more organized trading environment.

Planned Features & Facilities

The model market will come equipped with modern infrastructure and amenities:

  • Enclosures and auction rings with animal sorting and traceability systems
  • Permanent livestock sheds and display stalls
  • Large parking and loading/unloading zones for vehicles
  • Ancillary services: veterinary clinics, hotels, retail shops, police post, and administrative offices
  • Quarantine facilities, restrooms, and information booths
  • Safe pedestrian pathways throughout the premises

E-Auction & Digital Governance

Punjab is introducing an online auction system to lease cattle markets transparently. Interests are handled via a digital portal operated by PCMMDC (Punjab Cattle Market Management & Development Company), which oversees 112 registered markets across the province.
Recent auctions for Shahpur Kanjran and Multan fetched bids in the billion-rupee range, signaling strong interest from private participants under e-governance terms.
