Google has officially confirmed that its next big hardware event will take place on August 20. At the event, the company is expected to reveal the new Pixel 10 series, along with a few other new devices. The announcement puts an end to weeks of rumors and lines up with earlier leaks pointing to a launch in mid-to-late August.
What to Expect
At the event, Google is set to unveil its latest lineup of smartphones, including the Pixel 10, Pixel 10 Pro, Pixel 10 Pro XL, and the highly anticipated Pixel 10 Pro Fold. Alongside the phones, we’re also likely to see the debut of the Pixel Watch 4. Google might also introduce the Pixel Buds 2a — an updated version of its budget-friendly wireless earbuds.
Tensor G5 Chipset
Every phone in the Pixel 10 lineup will run on Google’s new Tensor G5 chip — the next generation of its custom processor. Unlike previous versions, the Tensor G5 is being made by TSMC instead of Samsung. This change is expected to bring better performance, improved energy efficiency, and cooler operation overall.
Camera and Accessory Updates
The Pixel 10 series is expected to bring camera improvements across the board. New features may include macro photography support on both the ultrawide and telephoto lenses, giving users more flexibility when shooting up close. Google is also introducing support for “Pixelsnap” magnetic accessories. Unlike Apple’s MagSafe, though, the magnets won’t be built into the phones themselves — they’ll be part of specially designed cases.
Looking Back at Pixel 9
The Pixel 10 lineup follows the Pixel 9 series, launched in 2024. While the Pixel 9 and Pixel 9 Pro were praised for their clean Android experience and smart, AI-powered cameras, they weren’t perfect. The Tensor G3 chip faced criticism for heating issues and only minor performance gains. Battery life was also a concern, especially during heavy use.
With the Pixel 10, Google is aiming to fix these issues by offering better performance, improved thermal efficiency, and longer battery life.
